The Doctoral Program in Geoenvironmental Science

We welcome international students.

We take advantage of the geographic location of Tsukuba, where many research institutions are concentrated, and conduct educational activities at the undergraduate level (School of Geosciences) and graduate level (Atmospheric and Hydrospheric Sciences Field / Human Geosciences Field).

Examination for Master's Program in Geoscience

English proficiency

When you submit your application, you are required to attach TOEIC Official Score Certificate (with your photo on), TOEFL Examinee Score Report (with your photo on), TOEFL iBT Home Edition Score Report (with your photo on), or IELTS Academic Module Official Test Report Form.
Test Scores taken after August 2024 are valid.
Your score for the English proficiency level will be determined on the basis of the standard scores mentioned below. If your score is equal to or higher than the standard scores, a full score of 100 will be awarded. If your score is below the standard scores, your score will be normalized according to our scoring system.
TOEIC: 860, TOEFL (iBT): 95, IELTS: 7.0.

Special Subject (Atmospheric and Hydrospheric Sciences Field / Human Geosciences Field)

The special subject comprises two parts: Common Question and Elective Questions from the selected area.

Oral examination (individual interviews)

You will be asked questions on your specialization and your purpose of enrollment.

Examination for Doctoral Program in Geosciences

Test subject and score: oral examination (100 points)
Details of the examination: The oral examination (individual interviews). Foreign students are allowed to use English during the presentation and interview.

An LCD projector with D-Sub 15 pin and HDMI connectors will be available for use. A PC is installed in the room, however, bringing your own laptop PC (with the presentation file saved) is highly recommended. Check its operation beforehand. The date and time for the operation check will be announced at a later date.

<Students from the Master's Program in Geoscience (Geoenvironmental Science Field), University of Tsukuba>
You are required to present only two or three slides (5 minutes) for the research plan. The interview will last for approximately 15 minutes.

<Other applicants>
You are required to present your Master's thesis (or your previous research) and research plan after enrollment for 15 minutes. An appropriate number of slides is 10 for the Master's thesis and 2 for the research plan. The interview will last for approximately 25 minutes.
