Examination for Master's Programs in Geoscience

Schedule: - 1:30pm~3:30pm 10:00am~5:00pm
Subjects: English Special Subject
(Geoenvironmental Science)
Oral Examination

Scores 150 points 250 points 100 points

English proficiency

When you submit your application, you are required to attach TOEIC Official Score Certificate (with photo attached), TOEFL Examinee Score Record (with photo attached), or IELTS Academic Module Test Report Form. Scores of only those certifications or tests that were taken after January 2016 are considered valid. Your score for the English proficiency level will be determined on the basis of the standard scores mentioned below. If your score is equal to or higher than the standard scores, a full score of 150 will be awarded. If your score is below the standard scores, your score will be normalized according to our scoring system.
TOEIC: 860, TOEFL-iBT: 95, IELTS: 7.0.

Special Subject (Geoenvironmental Science)

The special subject comprises two parts: Required subject and questions from the selected area. When you submit your application, you are required to select one area of the following categories: Human Geography, Regional Geography, Atmospheric Science, Geomorphology, Hydrological Science, Spatial Information Science, Terrestrial Water Cycle System, and Atmosphere-Ocean Interaction System.

Oral examination (individual interviews)

You will be asked questions on your specialization and your purpose of enrollment.

Date of Examination: February 1, 2018
Date of Result Announcement: February 16, 2018

Examination for Doctor's Programs in Geoenvironmental science

Test subject and score: oral examination (100 points)
Details of the examination: The oral examination (individual intervies) will last approximately 25 minutes. Foreign students are allowed to use English during the presentation and interview.
Prospective students are required to present their Master's thesis and research plan for 15 minutes. Please carry your media files in a USB flash memory. A liquid-crystal projector and a PC with Windows OS and PowerPoint are available in the lab. On the examination day, from 9:30 AM onwards, you can verify whether the equipments function satisfactorily. An appropriate number of slides is 10 for the Master's thesis and 2 for the research plan. Students applying to the Master's Program in Geoscience in the College of Geoenvironmental Science, University of Tsukuba, are required to present only two or three slides (5 minutes) for the research plan. The interview will last for approximately 15 minutes. If you wish to hand out any printed material for the oral examination, please prepare 15 copies.
