To investigate the thermal environment in Saitama prefecture in summer, the temperature observation was conducted at Saitama city, Koshigaya city and Kumagaya city from July 6, 2013 to September 6, 2013. During the observation, the condition of land use was the same between the urban site and the rural one. Averaging for 26 sunny days, the daily average temperature was the highest at Koshigaya city in the comparison between the rural sites. In the comparison between the urban sites, on the other hand, Saitama city showed the highest daily average temperature. Saitama city also showed the largest urban heat island intensity (UHI) on daily average. However, this UHI was different in the three cities when it was examined for the temporal change. The largest UHI in a day was shown at night in Saitama city, in the afternoon in Koshigaya city, and in the afternoon and at night in Kumagaya city.

 14 days in 26 sunny days indicated the extended sea breeze. In the extended sea breeze days, the temperature at Saitama city and Koshigaya city did not rise after 1200 LST, while the temperature in Kumagaya city continued to rise after 1200 LST. As a result, Kumagaya city became hotter than Saitama city and Koshigaya city in the afternoon. This result indicated the relationship between the effect of sea breeze and the geographic location. Hence, Saitama city and Koshigaya city was affected by sea breeze because these cities are located near the Tokyo bay, while Kumagaya city was not affected by sea breeze because it is located inland.
