Hakone has a complex terrain. Therefore, in Hakone, the major approaches to observe fog such as satellites and transmissometer are not applicable. In this thesis, characteristics of the fog occurrence were investigated using surveillance camera at 11 sites within about 10 km in diameter.

 There is a difference in the number of fog days by sites and the difference is up to three times. Except for small part of sites, the number of fog days was dependent on the elevation. Frequency distribution of fog appearance time period was different by sites. Trends of relationship of fog occurrence with precipitation, wind speed and wind direction were also different by sites. The site where fog is likely to occur is varied with synoptic patterns.

 These results indicate that the fog occurrence is very local.
